MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Gas City got a shoutout from Springfield Sunday night.

“D’oh Canada,” an episode in the 30th season of The Simpsons. The episode saw The Simpsons head to Canada after Lisa is injured during a visit to Niagara Falls and receives health care in Canada. While receiving the care, she decides she doesn’t want to leave Canada.

During the closing tag before the end credits, Lisa is telling her classroom about her trip to Canada during show-and-tell, and brings in a Mountie on horseback.

“What did you do this week, sir?” Lisa asks the officer.

“Well, a Japanese tourist took pictures of me, I fed my horse an apple, and i found a very interesting man hiding in Medicine Hat,” the Mountie replies, dragging in a man tied up with a rope.

The man turns out to be the father of Nelson Muntz, who is emotional to see him.

“Son, good news, you’ve got a brother in Fort McMurray,” Papa Muntz responds. When Nelson asks what his brother’s name is, his dad replies “How would I know?”

The episode was co-written by Tim Long, a Canadian, and Miranda Thompson. Long, who was born in Brandon, Manitoba, and grew up in Exeter, Ontario, is a consulting producer for the longest-running American sitcom. He received his first writing credit for The Simpsons in 1999 (“Simpsons Bible Stories”), and has written 29 episodes of the show.
