Medicine Hat, AB– After 40 years, it’s become a staple in Medicine Hat.

On Saturday, hundreds will storm the pavement for the annual Rattler Run at the college.

According to race director Tara Chisholm, registration numbers are solid so far.

“They are about on par,” she said. “So we are hoping to get one more big boost before Saturday comes. People can register online up until Thursday at midnight.”

After registration online closes, it turns to a drop-in basis with running packages available at the college tomorrow and Saturday.

Runners can choose between 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km courses.

Chisholm says the 10 km course has changed for this year.

“The 10 km is actually going through Ajax Coulee trail. So you go down into Kin Coulee and then it’s kind of on the backside of the park,” she continued. “There’s a nice little hidden trail. It’s really pretty. So you are going to run the full length of that plus a little bit extra and then turn around and come back through in Kin Coulee.”

Both the 10 km and 5 km runners will face the same final obstacle.

“The last thing is the hill. So once you do the hill, you’re done. You don’t have to run anymore. You just run straight to the finish and then you can get all the snacks and things you want,” Chisholm laughed.

In honour of this being the 40th annual run, there will be an extra prize draw for all runners.

“This year, something that is a little unique that we’ve never done before is anybody who enters into the race is going to entered to win a prize,” she added. “So we already do draw prizes, yes, but then if you’re 18 and over you’re entered in to win a free fitness appraisal and personal plan developed by one of be fit for life members.”

For runners under the age of 17, they will be entered to win a free week of Rattler camps.

The 10 km kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with the other two beginning shortly afterwards.
