MEDICINE HAT, AB — A former broadcaster arrested almost two years ago after a pair of banks were robbed has pleaded guilty to the charges.

Stephen Vogelsang, 55, entered guilty pleas to two counts of robbery in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Thursday, according to a representative for the court.

He will be sentenced on the charges on July 30 in provincial court.

Vogelsang was arrested in October 2017 after a Royal Bank of Canada branch and a Bank of Montreal branch were both robbed.

He was also charged in connection with several bank robberies in Regina and Saskatoon between July and October 2017.

Earlier in April, Vogelsang pleaded guilty to the charges in Saskatchewan. He received a prison sentence of five years, but with credit for time served, still has three years left on his sentence.

Vogelsang was a sports anchor and news director for many years with CKY (now CTV Winnipeg). He was also a journalism instructor at Red River College.
