Motz on what a UCP government could mean federally

Medicine Hat, AB — Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz was in Medicine Hat to celebrate the UCP sweep in Medicine Hat.

One of the first ridings called in the province, Michaela Glasgo was declared the winner of Brooks-Medicine Hat within 30 minutes of the polls closing.

While in Cypress-Medicine Hat, Drew Barnes earned his spot in Edmonton for the third time by almost 10,000 votes.

Glasgo and Barnes will hold just two of the 63 seat UCP majority.

Motz believes that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “may want to look over his shoulder” with the new UCP government.

“I think that for the first time in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s tenure, when he meets with the next Albertan Premier, it won’t be as accommodating as he’s experienced so far.” Motz said at the UCP election night party. “There will be some expectations. There will be some demands and Alberta has full right to make those expectations and have those demands.”

He is also optimistic that the UCP’s dominance in Alberta could help the federal Conservatives in the fall election.

“You know you can take nothing for granted at any level and this is encouraging,” he said. It’s positive. It gives you a real lift. There’s a lot of work to be done to take Canada back on the national level and it won’t be easy, but we’re going to be working on it and this certainly provides an opportunity to be reinvigorated for it again.”
