CALGARY, AB — The Alberta Liberal Party has been shut out of the legislature for the first time in more than 30 years.

The party, which held only one seat at the time of the election being called, lost the seat of Calgary Mountain View during Tuesday’s election.

Liberal leader David Khan was running in the riding, which has been held by the Liberals since 2008. He is currently projected to finish in fourth place, with 5.6 per cent of the vote, based on 97 of 99 polls. According to unofficial results, the NDP’s Kathleen Ganley is expected to win the riding, winning with 46.98 per cent of the vote.

The Liberal Party did not hold any seats in the legislature from 1971-1986.
