DENVER, CO – While he wasn’t able to cap off his NCAA career with a national title, former Brooks Bandits defenceman Cale Makar had plenty of reasons to celebrate on Sunday.

Makar inked his entry-level deal with the Colorado Avalanche and will join the team in their playoff run against Makar’s hometown Calgary Flames.

Finishing his sophomore year with the University of Massachusetts, Makar took home the Hobey Baker Award on Friday as the top player in NCAA hockey after posting 16 goals and 49 points in 41 games.

Playing two seasons with the Bandits, Makar set a number of team records and took home a number of honours including CJHL Most Valuable Player and AJHL Most Valuable Player, and was a two-time RBC Cup MVP.

Drafted fourth overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2017, Makar became the highest drafted player in AJHL history.

Makar is reportedly expected to dress in his first career NHL contest on Monday night in Denver, as the Avalanche face off against the Flames in Game 3 of their first round series.
