MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Public Library loans out many items that aren’t books or movies. One of these items is a self-audit tool kit that allows you to see where you’re using energy in your house.

Ken Feser, Chief Librarian says that the kit can be a great opportunity to anyone that loans it out.

“You can borrow a tool that’ll help you save money by making your home more efficient,” said Feser.

The kit comes with three tools. One can measure the amount of energy an appliance is using by plugging the appliance into the tool, which plugs into the wall.

“It just allows you to check your living space and see if you’re using energy when you don’t want to be.”

In the kit you’ll also find a tool that you can point at a window or door to see if heat is escaping out of your house to see where repairs or renovations might be necessary. The final tool measures electromagnetic frequencies to see if there’s any unhealthy radiation in your house.

“It improves your quality of life and makes sure that you’re being energy efficient.”

He says people that used the kit found it useful.

“People appreciate it and they find it useful. Anytime you can save money, know what to fix in your house, what to insulate and that sort of thing, it’s useful.”

To use the kit, all you need is a library card.
