MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) has arrested a father and son in Medicine Hat for allegedly trafficking drugs.

Investigators made the arrests on Wednesday, and seized more than $26,000 worth of drugs and cash following a six-week investigation.

Shane Hilmoe, 56, has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and two counts of possession of proceeds of crime.

Nathan Hilmoe, 23, has been charged with six counts of trafficking a controlled substance and possession of proceeds of crime.

During the investigation, officers seized more than 250 grams of cocaine, 18 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of fentanyl powder and $850 in cash proceeds of crime.

Staff Sergeant Cory Both in charge of the Organized Crime Unit says this amount of cocaine taken off the streets is a big win.

“250 is significant,” said Both. “It’s roughly just over half-a-pound of cocaine, which is a large quantity and it’s going to make a dent in the street level drug-trade for sure.”

Both men have been released with conditions and are scheduled to appear in court next week.
