MEDICINE HAT, AB — A man awaiting sentencing on a manslaughter conviction had his case adjourned another month.

Aaron Anand-Ford appeared briefly Friday morning in Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench, where a date for sentencing was supposed to be set.

However, the court was told a risk assessment report which was ordered, had not yet been completed, further delaying a sentencing date.

Anand-Ford was found guilty of one charge of manslaughter following a judge and jury trial which lasted nearly two weeks in February 2019.

He was originally charged with second-degree murder following a November 2016 altercation outside of a home in Crescent Heights that resulted in the death of 24-year-old Dustin Hewer.

Hewer died of sharp force trauma following the altercation.

A second person, Jacob Porfoun, was also charged with second-degree murder in connection with Hewer’s death, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2017, receiving a 6.5 year sentence.

Anand-Ford is scheduled to return to the Court of Queen’s Bench on May 17, where a sentencing date is expected to be set.
