OneSoccer 24/7 announced as new Canadian soccer streaming channel

Apr 5, 2019 | 5:15 PM

TORONTO — MediaPro, the Spanish media company that has partnered with Canada Soccer and the Canadian Premier League, has announced a new streaming channel called OneSoccer 24/7.

The channel will carry live coverage of all 98 CPL matches this season as well as home matches involving the Canadian men’s and women’s national teams plus all 24 Canadian Championship matches in 2019.

The new channel has yet to announce its price-point, however.

Mediapro says some Canadian Championship matches will be simulcast on “a national linear broadcaster.” OneSoccer will also air a selection of League 1 Ontario women’s and men’s games starting in 2020.

Mediapro struck a 10-year deal with Canada Soccer Business, which represents Canada’s national teams as well as the fledgling CPL, in February.

Mediapro’s business includes producing soccer games around the world — it handled the recent Canada-French Guiana CONCACAF Nations League qualifying game in Vancouver — and has produced games at the FIFA World Cup.

Mediapro, which has some 70 production trucks worldwide, currently produces games in 16 different leagues.

In Spain, Mediapro has created channels full of La Liga content. It plans to do the same in France with Ligue 1 starting in 2020 and sees Canada as a chance to get in on the ground floor with the new Canadian pro league about to kick off.

The seven-team CPL consists of Victoria’s Pacific FC, FC Edmonton, Calgary’s Cavalry FC, Winnipeg’s Valour FC, Hamilton’s Forge FC, north Toronto’s York 9 FC and HFX Halifax’s Wanderers.

The CPL season kicks off April 27.
