MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat College Rattlers may be finished with their season on the court, but their work continues off the court.

The Rattlers Athletic Program invited the local chapter of Big Brothers, Big Sisters to the college Tuesday evening. During the evening, members of the Rattlers played games with the children in attendance at the gym.

“I love being out in the community, chatting with kids, meeting different people, it’s awesome,” said Ty Moline, a member of the Rattlers volleyball team. “You get to hear some stories from their side of life. Hering a nine-year-old’s opinion on life is some of the best stuff you’ll ever hear.”

Moline, along with multiple members of the Rattlers in all sports, have been serving as a Big Brother or a Big Sister for a child in the community.

Melissa Pearl, the community mentoring coordinator with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, says the partnership between the Rattlers and the organization started three months ago.

“They’re creating that mentoring capacity with our Littles, and creating friendships and whatnot,” she said. “We’re doing some bigger group activities together, just trying to get our kids knowing what it’s like for college and what they can look forward to as they grow up.”

Pearl says the organization plans to continue to do more activities with the Rattlers when school returns in the fall.
