United Conservatives release oil and gas platform

TURNER VALLEY, AB — The United Conservative Party has released its platform on the oil and gas industry during a campaign stop in Turner Valley Tuesday morning.

UCP leader Jason Kenney says, if elected, his party will work to restore investor confidence in the province, saying the NDP has wrecked Alberta’s reputation as a good place to do business.

“A United Conservative government will proudly stand up for our 151,000 energy workers and immediately launch a comprehensive plan to get our energy sector creating jobs again,” Kenney said in a statement.

As part of its platform, the UCP says if elected, they would reform the Alberta Energy Regulator to speed up well approvals, and intervene at all National Energy Board hearings which affect Alberta oil and gas interests.

The party has also pledged to streamline regulations which hinder the industry to help get drilling rigs out into the field.

The party says, if elected, they will also support the growing of the petrochemical industry in the province, and work with the industry to “get a fair price for Alberta natural gas,” by supporting infrastructure on the west coast, and appointing an Associate Minister for Natural Gas.
