EDMONTON, AB – After years of turning around Medicine Hat’s Midget AA program, the Hounds can finally call themselves provincial champions.

Forward Ryley Manz put his team on his back on Sunday, netting two goals and four points in a 5-2 victory over the CNHA Canucks in the midget AA provincial gold medal game.

Manz scored twice in the first period to put Medicine Hat up by a pair at the first intermission, but Eric Van Loon responded just 15 seconds into the second frame for the Canucks.

Calgary tied up the score at 2-2 with six minutes to go in the second from Maxwell Goldade.

However, the Hounds regained a one-goal lead just over a minute later off the blade of Connor Miller to put Medicine Hat ahead by the slimmest of margins at the break.

Trying to protect their lead over the final 20 minutes, the Hounds potted a pair of timely goals from Levi Schlosser and Jacob Milne over the final minute of play to bring the provincial banner home to Medicine Hat.

Reigning SCAHL Goaltender of the Year Teron Funk stopped 23 pucks on Sunday to preserve the gold, which will be joined in the Hounds trophy case by SCAHL South Division and league championship banners.
