EDMONTON, AB – Alberta NDP leader Rachel Notley launched her election platform this afternoon, which focuses on jobs, families, health care, education and a plan to balance Alberta’s budget by 2023.

“My plan diversifies our economy, builds new schools and hospitals and balances the budget – all while preserving Alberta’s strongest balance sheet in Canada” said Notley in a press-release.

Highlights for Notley’s commitments during this campaign include:

  • Building the Trans-Mountain Pipeline and super-charging the Made-In-Alberta Plan to upgrade our resources, attracting $75 billion in private sector investment and creating 75,000 jobs.
  • Defending public health care through targeted investments to reduce surgery and emergency room wait times.
  • Supporting our economy and families by capping child care fees at $25 per day.
  • Helping our kids learn by building 70 new schools, hiring 1000 new support staff and teachers.
  • Supporting seniors and families by building 2000 new long-term care beds

Other commitments include:

  • Eliminating tuition fees for high school upgrading and English Language Learning programs
  • Creating a Small Business Investment Office
  • Creating a Newcomer Paths to Employment Strategy
  • Banning conversion therapy
  • Accelerating the schedule to extend drinking water infrastructure to reserves
  • Giving the Elections Commissioner greater latitude to report on investigations

Notley said her fully-costed plan is the result of extensive consultation and feedback from Albertans.

“I am more optimistic than ever about Alberta’s future. We are a young, diverse and dynamic. My platform is designed for that future, an Alberta where we all move forward together, where we invest in people and where everyone gets the best shot in life.”
