MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Alberta Liberal Party has announced a candidate for the Brooks-Medicine Hat riding.

According to Elections Alberta, Jamah Farah will carry the party banner in the riding for the provincial election.

According to Gary Bobrovitz with the Alberta Liberal Party, Farah is originally from Somalia, and has lived in Canada for 11 years. He has an electrical engineering degree, and works at JBS Foods.

“In Brooks-Medicine Hat, the major issues are Healthcare, education and supporting small business who are the backbone of our economy,” Farah wrote in a statement. “Alberta Liberals support the Agriculture Sector. Farm families are important to us. They deserve better policing and access to mental health services.

“As a new Canadian I strongly supports improved service to boost skills and training as well as English as a Second Language.”

The Liberals did not run a candidate in the Medicine Hat riding in the 2015 election (Eric Musekamp ran in the neighbouring Cypress-Medicine Hat riding). Before the election was called, the party held only one seat in the legislature.

Speaking over the phone Friday afternoon, Farah says the 2019 election is a change election, and believes the Alberta Liberals can deliver that change.

“The Liberal Party is for everybody, for newcomers, for low income families, for senior citizens, and i believe the Liberal Party’s views is now the mainstream view in all Canadians,” he said.

Farah says he plans to campaign throughout the riding in the coming weeks.

With Farah’s entry into the race, he will be the sixth candidate on the ballot, joining Todd Beasley (independent), Jim Black (Alberta Party), Michaela Glasgo (United Conservative Party), Collin Pacholek (Alberta Independence Party) and Lynn MacWilliam (NDP).

The election takes place on April 16.
