MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat SPCA’s annual general meeting is set for Friday, and emotions are running high among those planning to attend.

“There’s a lot of people going, there’s a lot of questions,” says De Seaton, former SPCA assistant manager. “People are not going to back down easy because they want answers, they want answers.”

The organization has been under fire since February after being accused of having a lack of transparency and accountability.

The SPCA initially postponed their AGM, saying they wanted to do an internal investigation beforehand about allegations levelled against them.

Seaton says the investigation is now complete and its findings will likely be presented at the meeting.

“As far as I know, he’s presenting his findings at the meeting,” she said.

Seaton says there’s been a lot of online buzz about the meeting, with people writing down questions they hope to ask the board of directors.

“I think it’s really positive, I’m glad people are waking up and realizing what’s going on, it’s time for change.”

Seaton says she doesn’t know whether the board will take questions, but it’s important that people attend.

“I hope the public shows up, I hope people ask questions, they have every right to ask questions,” says Seaton. “They need to know where their money’s going, what’s being done with their money, how the animals are being treated, all the kind of stuff, people need to ask.”

The AGM is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m at the Travelodge Hotel.
