Sounds may be heard coming from CFB Suffield

SUFFIELD, AB – CFB Suffield is once again warning residents they could hear some things in the coming days that may seem alarming.

The base says residents could hear loud explosive noises due to defence research activities.

John Anderson with the Suffield Research Centre says they will be testing different welds on steel plates for the navy.

“Our test uses some high explosives to stress the weld point or the metal around the weld point and then we evaluate afterwards the quality of the weld as a function of how much force it can take.”

Anderson says this testing poses no risk to members of the public and will continue periodically until Thursday.

He adds that if you have any questions, you can contact CFB Suffield at 403-544-5544. From there, they may direct you to the Research Centre and Anderson says they’d be happy to answer any questions or concerns.
