OLDS, AB – The Medicine Hat Peewee Wildcats are through to the semi-finals at Female ‘A’ Provincials, wrapping up the round-robin on Saturday afternoon.

In a battle of two undefeated teams, the Wildcats couldn’t overcome a two-goal deficit in the third period in a 3-1 loss against the Red Deer Peewee Chiefs.

Red Deer needed just five minutes to light the lamp with a power play goal from Ava Burghardt, but Ryan Harvey-Zenk answered back from the Wildcats four minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams went to the first intermission tied, but the Chiefs regained the lead in the first minute of the second period off the tape of Malia Tetreault.

The Chiefs doubled their lead to 3-1 near the end of the frame, with Burghardt netting her second goal of the afternoon.

Red Deer goaltender Rayna Lennie stoned the Wildcats at every chance in the third period, stopping everything that came her way to finish her afternoon with 27 saves.

As for Medicine Hat’s Maddy Ferguson, she made 17 saves in her first loss of the tournament.

Medicine Hat finishes the round-robin with a 2-1 record and will face the Okotoks Oilers in the semi-finals on Saturday at 6:00 pm.

The winner will advance to face Red Deer in the provincial gold medal game on Sunday at 9:00 am at the Olds Sportsplex.
