MEDICINE HAT, AB – Planning for the 29th annual Spectrum Festival is underway and they have officially selected a location for this years event.

“Kin Coulee Park is just a great spot,” explained Spectrum Board Vice-President, Tammy Sweeney. “When it was downtown, it was spread out a little bit and part of the idea of Spectrum is gathering the community together. Kin Coulee is green, it’s beautiful and it’s one of the best things that Medicine Hat has.”

Spectrum is a three-day festival hosted every year and Sweeney says it’s the unofficial start to the summer.

“There will be a lot of food trucks. The main stage will be full of music and other entertainment as well. We’ll also have Van Hooligans, which is the magic tent back as well. We will have different vendors and activities for kids. We might have the movie night back as well, but that’s not 100% confirmed yet.”

Sweeney says there will also be some new additions this year, but she doesn’t want to give away too much yet.

“You can look for a little bit more in terms of animals than what we’ve had in the years past and some other kids activities as well. Some new music and entertainment. The beer gardens will be back again. But, we are looking to bring in some new things.”

She added they are looking to fill a couple of entertainment spots as well.

“If you do have a band or maybe some music schools, dance schools, let us know. We have a pretty full-schedule, but we still have some spots that we can fill in.”

To make this event happen though, Sweeney says they are looking for a bit of help.

“We do need volunteers to make this run. They could be doing anything from set up and tear down, to escorting the entertainers that are here.  It’s making sure things are where they need to be and the park is in good shape. Also. if you want to fundraise or look for sponsors, you could do that. There’s a lot of different ways people can help out.”

The 2019 Spectrum Festival is scheduled to begin Friday, May 31st at 4:00 p.m. and will run until Sunday, June 2nd until roughly 4:00 p.m..

If you would like to find out additional information, Sweeney says you can contact her through their webpage which can be found here.

UPDATE: Tammy Sweeney says: “the Spectrum Festival has confirmed that ‘Park After Dark Cinemas’ is back this year on Saturday, June 1st with Spider Man – Into The Spider Verse. We are grateful for our sponsor,  Nathan Nunweiler IG Wealth Management, for bringing this to Spectrum again!”

Also, new this year – Flashing Canines Agility Club will offer demonstrations/shows throughout the weekend.
