MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat College Rattlers and the Medicine Hat Soccer Association will be partnering to help provide stability for soccer in the Gas City.

The college announced Wednesday they will be partnering with the association to hire an executive director for the Soccer Association. That person will also serve as the new head coach for the Rattlers men’s and women’s soccer and futsal teams.

“This is an exciting new opportunity for local soccer and our Rattlers teams” says Terry Ballard, manager of sport and wellness with the college, in the news release touting the announcement. “This partnership allows us to have someone on campus each day to work with our student-athletes. It also provides the Medicine Hat Soccer Association with an improved leadership structure.”

“We have been working towards restructuring the operations of MHSA for a while now and this is an exciting opportunity to help grow our association and increase our ability to deliver programs to our membership,” says Jeff Vangen, president of MHSA, in a statement. “This position builds upon the partnership we have had with MHC for almost a decade.”

Stephen Newton, Rodrigo Tavares and Ian Tully held coaching duties for the soccer and futsal programs this past year, with Ballard thanking the trio for their work.

The college says they will issue a further release once they’ve hired someone for the position.
