Lynn MacWilliam wants to keep NDP momentum going

MEDICINE HAT, AB —Lynn MacWilliam is hoping residents of the Brooks-Medicine Hat riding will give the NDP an opportunity to continue their agenda for another term.

“My goal is to let people know that Rachel Notley and her team have done a very good job the last four years and will continue to do a good job with getting a pipeline through, with healthcare, with education,” she said on Tuesday. “We want to make sure all of those things are going to continue on a really good path.”

MacWilliam will be representing the NDP on the ballot in the riding. She will be up against Michaela Glasgo (United Conservative Party), Jim Black (Alberta Party) and Todd Beasley (Independent), who have all declared their intentions to run. Candidates have until March 29 to have their names on the ballot in time for the April 16 vote.

MacWilliam says education, healthcare, and getting a pipeline built are the biggest issues in this election she’s been hearing through door-knocking.

MacWilliam has previously worked on Parliament Hill for various Members of Parliament, and has also worked for members of the legislative assembly in the Yukon Territory. Prior to the election, she was a Councillor for the Town of Bassano, a role she has had since 2017.

“I think that I’ll work very hard for the constitutes of the riding,” she said. “I have been in politics for many, many years. I understand, I’ve worked in constituency offices. I know what the needs are. Cutting, helping people get though the red tape of government as well as making sure their properties are looked into and are working.”

MacWilliam previously ran for the NDP in the 2015 provincial election, finishing in third place in the riding of Strathmore-Brooks. Bassano is now part of the Brooks-Medicine Hat riding following a redrawing of boundaries.

MacWilliam is sharing a campaign office with Cypress-Medicine Hat candidate Peter Mueller. It is located at 105 Carry Drive Southeast.
