ATHABASCA, AB – After months of being one of the top girls basketball teams in southern Alberta, a bitter pill to swallow for the Monsignor McCoy High Colts at ASAA 3A Basketball Provincials.

Coming off an 84-60 loss to the W.R. Myers Rebels in the semi-finals on Friday evening, the Colts saw their hopes of a provincial medal dashed on Saturday afternoon at Edwin Parr Composite High School.

The fourth-ranked Colts were upended by the St. Peter the Apostle Spartans 71-59 in the provincial bronze medal game, finishing just off the podium in fourth place.

Monsignor McCoy High will see plenty of turnover next season, as over half of the senior girls Colts roster are set to graduate.

That includes sisters Stephanie and Jillian Laing, Courtney Kane-Rissling, Halle Gjerlaug, Brynn Toews, Delainey Zdan, Taytem Rath, Mackenzie Park, Katelyn Unreiner, and Kassidy Rae.

In the provincial gold medal final a sizable upset meanwhile, as the Wetaskiwin Composite Sabres took down the Rebels by a 63-54 final to earn the 3A girls title.
