McCoy Colts fall in provincial semi-final, to play for bronze

ATHABASCA, AB – The Monsignor McCoy High Colts senior girls basketball team will be playing for provincial bronze on Saturday after suffering their first loss at 3A ASAA Provincials.

Facing off against top-ranked W.R. Myers out of Taber in the provincial semi-finals on Friday night, the Colts fell by an 84-60 score.

While gold is now off the table for the Monsignor McCoy girls, they will still have a shot at bringing home some hardware.

They’ll take to the court for the final time this winter on Saturday at 2:30 pm against the third-ranked St. Peter the Apostle Spartans in the bronze medal match at Edwin Parr Composite High School.

4A Boys Provincials

As for the Medicine Hat High Mohawks senior squad, their season came to an end on Friday night at 4A Provincials in Edmonton.

Competing in the consolation side of the bracket, the 12th ranked Mohawks lost a 98-93 thriller to the Raymond Comets in the consolation semi-finals.

Playing in his final game in a Mohawks uniform, senior Eidan Jonker hit ten shots from beyond the arc to lead Medicine Hat’s offence.

Along with Jonker, Bailey Gosse, Fred Kabore, Reece Mulder, Josh Howe, and Kyle Wagenaar wrapped up their high school careers on Friday.
