MEDICINE HAT, AB – A cigarette sparked a car fire in the City’s southeast this morning.

The Fire Department responded to Southlands Boulevard near 13th Avenue around 10:20 a.m.

A man had dropped a cigarette between the seat causing his vehicle to go up in flames.

Fire officials say this situation is a good reminder to be careful when smoking in a car.

“If you’re going to choose to smoke, smoke responsibly,” said Captain Jeff Kozakewich. “We do ask anybody who is a smoker, to extinguish their cigarettes and not throw it out the window, as we’re starting to get into the grass fire season here.”

The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries as a result of the blaze.
