Mohawks competing for spot in gold medal game at Basketball Zones

LETHBRIDGE, AB — The Medicine Hat High School Mohawks are moving onto the next round of the 4A South Basketball Zones.

Taking on the Chinook High School Coyotes, the Mohawks battled to a 96-87 victory in the first game of the tournament Tuesday night.

Ethan Egert led the Mohawks in scoring with 23 points, while teammate Eidan Jonker scored 20 points, and Aiden Gripp had 19 points.

Liam Doyle led the Coyotes with 28 points through the game.

The Mohawks play for a spot in the gold medal game on Thursday, as they battle the number-one seeded Cardston Cougars. The game begins at 7 p.m. at the University of Lethbridge.

The gold medal game goes Saturday at 8 p.m.

Junior Varsity Mohawks

The Junior Varsity Mohawks are also competing for a chance in the gold medal game after topping the Catholic Central Cougars 72-52 on Monday.

A scoresheet for the game was not available.

The semifinal game between the Mohawks and the Cardston Wildcats goes tonight at 7 p.m.

The gold medal game will take place Saturday at noon.

Senior Varsity Kwahommies

The Hat High Kwahommies’ chances at a gold medal are over, but they still have an opportunity for a bronze medal.

Taking on the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Clippers Tuesday night, the Kwahommies were defeated 100-52.

The Clippers will take on the Magrath Pandas Thursday at 6 p.m., with the winning team advancing to the gold medal game on Saturday. The team that loses will play the Kwahommies Friday at 5 p.m. for a spot in the bronze medal game, which is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.

Junior Varsity Kwahommies

The junior Kwahommies saw their tournament come to an end Monday, dropping a 61-49 decision to the Cardston Wildcats. Scoring information was not available.
