Mohawks promoting fight against ALS in final home game

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Playoffs are top of mind for the Medicine Hat High School Mohawks senior boys basketball team.

However, the post-season will take a back seat on Friday night, as they raise awareness for ALS and the work one local family is doing to combat the disease.

Senior Kyle Wagenaar lost his mother, Karen, to ALS almost two years ago. The Grade 12 also had his grandfather taken by the disease, while his second cousin was recently diagnosed.

Friday night’s match against the Catholic Central Cougars will help promote the Wagenaar family’s Purple Shirt Fundraiser, which will take place in April.

CHAT Sports recently spoke with Kyle, who says it will be an emotional night in what will also be his final game at Hat High.

Tip-off between the Senior Varsity Mohawks and the Cougars is set for 8:00 p.m. from the Hat High gymnasium.
