MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Wilson-Raybould case has sparked reaction from politicians and political analysts across Canada.

Jody Wilson-Raybould testified to the House of Commons justice committee Wednesday, saying she felt political pressure from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other top officials to stop the criminal prosecution of Quebec-based engineering and construction company SNC-Lavalin.

Here testimony, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s response, has created discussion across the provinces, including in Medicine Hat.

CHAT News asked a variety of Hatter’s their opinions on the controversy. Here are some of the responses:

“The whole thing is a mess, it’s gotta be cleaned up,” says a woman in Medicine Hat’s Walmart parking lot. “I don’t know what they’re gonna do, it’s pretty touchy.”

“I think there should be an investigation,” added another woman in Medicine Hat’s Walmart parking lot.

“Pretty plain there’s something going on there,” says a man at Wal-Mart. “Whatever that is I don’t know, it doesn’t sound too good.”

“I still think there’s room for some explanation regarding both sides of the story,” a man told CHAT News at the Medicine Hat Mall. “I don’t think it’s resolved yet.”

“Jody Wilson-Raybould, I give her a lot of credit for speaking up and sticking true to her morals and confronting the government,” one woman said at the Mall. “Like, hey,  it takes a lot of guts to do that.”

“I don’t think it’s any worse than Brian Mulroney or Harper have done in the past,” a man at the Mall said.
