MEDICINE HAT, AB — Claire Holt calls it the ‘cherry on top’ of a tremendous campaign.

The Grade 10 guard for the Monsignor McCoy JV Colts is celebrating a Southeast Basketball Conference championship after trouncing the Bassano Broncos 68-48 on home court Wednesday night.

This puts the finishing touches on a decorated season for the young ladies. They went undefeated in league play with an 8-0 record, and struck gold at three invitational tournaments.

Holt, who hopes to play for the Senior Varsity Colts next year, says team chemistry was a key ingredient for their success all season.

Head coach Kennedy Werre took over the sidelines at the beginning of this season, and echoes Holt’s remarks. The former MHC Rattlers great also says she’s extremely proud of her team for everything they’ve accomplished this year.

Holt and Werre spoke with Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports following the championship-clinching victory to discuss how it feels to finish the season on top, and how they were able to maintain their level of success through the season.

Plus, Werre discusses her transition from her playing days as a Rattler, to her new position on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, the SV Colts have the chance to follow in the JVs footsteps on Thursday night, hosting the Crescent Heights Vikings in the championship final at 6:00 p.m.
