Mohawks stop losing streak Tuesday night

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat High School Mohawks were victorious on the basketball court Tuesday night.

The senior varsity team topped the Chinook Coyotes 93-79 inside the Hat High gymnasium, snapping a four game losing skid. The junior varsity team was victorious 84-62.

During the senior game, Fred Kabore led the Mohawks with 22 points, with Ethan Egert scoring 20 points, Elijah Buachie-Kaba recording 19 points and Bailey Gosse scoring 13 points.

Karson Valgardson led the Coyotes with 27 points during the game.

In the junior game, Archie Belza led the Mohawks with 23 points.

The Mohawks will play their final two games of the season this weekend. On Friday, the host the Catholic Central Cougars, with games beginning at 6 p.m. (junior varsity) and 8 p.m. (senior varsity). They will wrap up the season on the road Saturday in Lethbridge, battling the Winston Churchill Bulldogs. Games will take place at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Colts top Vikings

In other senior boys basketball action, the Monsignor McCoy High School Colts took home a narrow 72-67 victory over the Crescent Heights High School Vikings in a Southeast Basketball Conference playoff game.

Jaxon Turcotte led the Colts with 17 points during the game, while teammate Ethan Smith had 14.

There was no scoring information immediately available for the Vikings.

According to the Southeast Basketball Conference website, the Colts will play for a spot in the finals on Thursday against the W.R. Myers Rebels Thursday evening in Barnwell at 7 p.m., according to the Colts’ website.
