MEDICINE HAT, AB – Breaks are coming few and far between for a snakebitten Medicine Hat Tigers squad, shutout 5-0 by the Lethbridge Hurricanes for their sixth consecutive loss.

Medicine Hat (31-24-3-2) piled 35 shots on Hurricanes netminder Carl Tetachuk on Saturday night, however the 18-year-old blanked the struggling Tigers to earn his first career WHL shutout.

He becomes the second goaltender the Tigers have faced over the past week to pull off such a feat, joining Edmonton Oil Kings goalie Dylan Myskiw.

Lethbridge’s Nick Henry opened the scoring less than three minutes into the contest, beating Jordan Hollett in front of the crease to put the Hurricanes up early.

The Tigers kept it to a one-goal game until the middle of the second period, when top draft prospect Dylan Cozens threw a puck on net that fooled Hollett to double Lethbridge’s lead.

That was followed up by Jake Elmer’s 31st goal of the season seven minutes later, before Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Caden Addison jumped up in the play and scored to make it a four-goal game at the intermission.

Addison needed just 68 seconds to open the third period with his second goal of the night, sending Hollett to the showers after allowing five goals on 23 shots for his sixth consecutive loss.

Mads Søgaard stopped seven shots in relief of Hollett, as the Tigers were shutout for the second time in their last three games.

Despite dropping six straight games, Medicine Hat has outshot or tied their opponent in shots four times including Saturday when they outshot the Hurricanes 35-30.

Over that stretch, the Tigers have been outscored by a margin of 30-10 by their opposition.

Centre Brett Kemp was listed as a scratch for Saturday’s game, however head coach Shaun Clouston confirmed Kemp passed concussion protocol on Friday and isn’t expected to be out of the lineup long term.

Medicine Hat has now fallen out of the Central Division seeds and hold the first wildcard spot with 67 points, however the Red Deer Rebels sit just four points out of the playoff picture with two games in hand.

In fact, the Tigers sit just nine points back of the division lead and two points ahead of the final playoff spot with eight games left in the regular season.

Another big divisional test comes on Friday night when they head to Edmonton to face Josh Williams and the Oil Kings for the final time in the regular season.
