Judge to make decision on Mandel candidacy next week

EDMONTON, AB — Alberta Party leader Stephen Mandel will have to wait another week to find out if he can run in this spring’s provincial election.

A judge reserved her decision until next week on Mandel’s challenge against a ruling from Elections Alberta preventing him from running.

The ruling, issued earlier in February, would prevent Mandel from running for five years after he failed to file financial statements from his nomination contest in 2018.

Candidates have four months from the time they’re nominated to file the financial statements. Mandel was nominated for the Edmonton-McClung riding on May 12, 2018.
