COALDALE, AB — Mason Fischer wrote another chapter in the Medicine Hat Travelodge Cubs storied campaign, scoring the game-winning goal in triple-overtime against the Coaldale Copperheads on Tuesday night.

The 4-3 victory gives the Cubs a 1-0 series lead over their Highway 3 rivals in their best-of-seven South Division semi-final. The series shifts to the Kinplex on Friday for Game 2 at 5:30 p.m.

Medicine Hat is using an ‘underdog’ mentality to fuel the team. Coaldale took the South Division crown with a daunting 29-7-2 record which includes a season-series sweep over the Cubs.

Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports caught up with head coach JD Gaetan to hear more about the Cubs wild victory, how his players remained calm throughout the match, and how his crew stacks up against the powerhouse Copperheads.
