Hat athletes contending for medals at Canada Winter Games

RED DEER, AB — A pair of Medicine Hat athletes continue to perform well at the Canada Winter Games.

Speed skater Joshua Hathaway won a bronze medal Tuesday morning in the 5000 metre long-track speed skating event, finishing with a time of 7:00.65. Hathaway was eight seconds behind teammate Kaleb Muller, who won a gold medal with a time of 6:52.95.

Hathaway previously won a gold medal in team pursuit at the games.

He is scheduled to compete in the 1000m finals and the Long Track Mass Start events on Wednesday.

Boxer Janick Lacroix is also guaranteed a medal after qualifying for the 75 kg gold medal match.

Lacroix won a unanimous decision over British Columbia’s Jonathan Hannah on Monday.

The gold medal bout will take place on Wednesday at Westerner Park.
