EDMONTON, AB – Four minutes was all it took for Monday’s matinee game against the Edmonton Oil Kings to get out of hand for the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Three goals in the span of 4:14 sunk the Tigers at Rogers Place, while Oil Kings goalie Dylan Myskiw registered his first career WHL shutout in a 5-0 drubbing of Medicine Hat.

Oil Kings forward Scott Atkinson needed just 2:30 to put Edmonton up 1-0, redirecting a puck past Mads Søgaard for the early lead.

Andrew Fyten added his 15th goal of the season only 22 seconds later for the Oil Kings, before import Vladimir Alistrov padded the lead to 3-0 less than five minutes into the contest.

The Tigers outshot Edmonton 14-6 over the second period, however Myskiw came up with a flurry of big stops to keep Medicine Hat off the score board through 40 minutes.

Quinn Benjafield was able to make it a four goal game with seven minutes left in regulation, netting his 12th of the season on the power play with Tigers centre Logan Christensen in the box for a checking from behind minor.

Capping things off was Vince Loschiavo with a breakaway goal to beat Søgaard for Edmonton’s fifth goal of the afternoon with 1:57 remaining, while Myskiw made 38 saves to pick up the shutout.

Despite outshooting Edmonton on Monday, the Tigers struggled to get anything working on the power play going 0-for-5 against the Oil Kings.

Søgaard allowed five goals on 31 shots and has allowed 11 goals over his last two starts since being named CHL Goaltender of the Week.

Medicine Hat has extended its losing streak to four games and now sits three points back of Lethbridge for second place in the Central Division with a 31-22-3-2 record.

After a disappointing long weekend, the Tigers are off until Friday night when they open a home-and-home set with the Hurricanes in Lethbridge at 7:00 pm.
