SPRUCE GROVE, AB – The door was open for Medicine Hat’s Vicki Sjolie and the Shannon Kleibrink rink, but they’ll have to settle for silver at the 2019 Alberta Senior Women’s Provincial Championship.

Team Kleibrink had the hammer in the eighth end of the provincial final on Sunday afternoon, but gave up a steal of one to Calgary’s Glenys Bakker rink to lose their first game of the tournament 6-5.

Following a scoreless opening end, Team Kleibrink was able to jump ahead 1-0 with a single in the second end to take the lead.

Bakker made the most out of the hammer in the third end with a pair, before Kleibrink came back with two points of her own in the fourth to make it a 3-2 contest.

The trend of two-point ends continued in the fifth and sixth ends with Kleibrink leading 5-4, that was until Bakker posted a single in the seventh end to knot the game up at 5-5.

Kleibrink needed her final shot to clear away one yellow stone in the house, but came up short handing the provincial gold medal to the Bakker rink.

Sjolie threw lead stones for the Kleibrink foursome all week, as they end their provincial tournament with a 7-1 record.

Team Bakker will now represent Alberta at the 2019 Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Chilliwack, B.C. from March 22 to 28.
