SPRUCE GROVE, AB – Medicine Hat’s Vicki Sjolie will be playing for a provincial title on Sunday, winning once again with the Shannon Kleibrink rink at the 2019 Alberta Senior Women’s Provincial Championship.

Wrapping up the round-robin on Saturday afternoon, Sjolie and Team Kleibrink managed to score three in the eighth end against Grande Prairie’s Janet Plante rink to pull off a 7-5 comeback win.

Throwing lead stones for the Olympic bronze medallist, Sjolie was able to help the Kleibrink rink get out to a 3-0 lead over Plante after the first end.

Plante responded with a pair in the second end, before Kleibrink added a single in the third to boost their lead back to 4-2.

Things began to unravel for Sjolie and the Kleibrink foursome however, as Plante scored points in the next three ends to take her first lead of the game 5-4.

After a blank end in the seventh to keep the hammer, Kleibrink was able to net a trio in the final end to keep her undefeated record alive.

Sweeping the round-robin with a 7-0 record, Team Kleibrink has earned the top seed entering playoffs and have booked their place in the provincial final.

They’ll battle the winner of Sunday’s semi-final between the Glenys Bakker and Diane Foster rinks, with the finals set for 2:00 pm.

The winner of the Alberta Senior Women’s Provincial Championship will represent the province at the 2019 Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Chilliwack, B.C. next month.
