Jury finds Anand-Ford guilty of manslaughter in 2016 death

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat man who was on trial for second-degree murder has been found guilty of manslaughter.

A jury delivered the verdict Thursday night. Aaron Anand-Ford had been on trial since February 4th in the Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench.

He was charged following an altercation outside a home in Crescent Heights that resulted in the death of Dustin Hewer.

Hewer, 24, died from sharp force trauma.

Jacob Porfoun was also charged with second degree murder in connection with Hewer’s death.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2017 and received a 6.5 year sentence.

A pre-sentence report and risk assessment report has been ordered for Anand-Ford.

He is due back in court on March 15, where a date for sentencing will be set.
