Calgary man charged following fatal collision near Oyen

OYEN, AB — A 30-year-old Calgary man has been charged by Oyen RCMP following a fatal collision near the town on Sunday.

Officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 9 at Range Road 50 at approxcimately 9 p.m. According to RCMP, an SUV with three people inside left the roadway and rolled.

The two passengers, a 33-year-old man in the back seat and a 31-year-old man in the front seat, were both taken to hospital, however the 33-year-old man died from his injuries.

Officers charged Sompasong Rattanathongsay, 30, with three impaired driving charges, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

He has been released by a justice, and will appear in Hanna Provincial Court on February 27.
