‘It’s hard to say goodbye’: Colts celebrate seniors’ final home game

MEDICINE HAT, AB — There are some games the score does not matter.

That was the case Wednesday night at Monsignor McCoy High School, as 10 graduating members of the senior girls’ basketball team were given an emotional send-off in their final home game of the regular season.

The Colts beat the Brooks Buffalos handily 62-33, but the moments following the final buzzer outweighed any level of victory.

Long-time head coach Janice Laing prepared a heartfelt farewell to each of her graduating members — most of which she’s coached since Grade 7.

While it’s not easy to say goodbye, Laing is excited to see where their futures will take them.

Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports caught up with Laing to hear her thoughts on the SV Colts graduating class of ’19 and how it feels to have watched each of them become the young ladies they are today.

Plus, senior Halle Gjerlaug explains how her connection with her teammates has evolved over the years, and how coach Laing has influenced her life both on and off the court.
