CRANBROOK, B.C. — The Kootenay ICE made a bold attempt to steal a victory from the Medicine Hat Tigers, but a pair of Ryan’s stopped them in their tracks.

Ryan Jevne and Ryan Chyzowski both notched a pair of goals, propelling the Tabbies to a 6-3 victory at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook, B.C. on Wednesday night.

Medicine Hat (29-18-2-2) is now just one point back of Lethbridge for second in the WHL’s Central Division and four points back of Edmonton for the lead.

Cole Clayton and Tyler Preziuso also picked up goals for the Tigers, who’ve won four of five meetings against the ICE (11-33-7-1) this season.

Jevne, playing his final season of eligibility, also picked up two assists, as did Preziuso and captain James Hamblin.

Brad Ginnell, Peyton Krebs, and Jakin Smallwood lit the lamp for the ICE.

Mads Sogaard earned the victory in goal for the Tigers with 23 saves. Jesse Makaj was substantially busier at the other end of the ice with 46 saves.

Kootenay weathered a ferocious Medicine Hat squad for the first 20 minutes, trailing by a 2-1 deficit despite throwing just three shots on goal.

Preziuso’s goal gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead 1:52 into the second frame. From there, Kootenay regained some footing, outshooting the Tigers 16-13 in the period and cutting the deficit to 3-2 before the intermission.

Smallwood’s marker squared the game up 3-3 under six minutes into the third period, but Jevne answered back just 24 seconds later to regain the Tigers lead.

Medicine Hat went 3-for-4 on the powerplay, while Kootenay was successful twice on four opportunities.

The Tigers now prepare for a busy weekend ahead, swooping through the U.S. Division for three games in three nights before circling back home. Next up is a date with the Everett Silvertips on Friday at 8:35 p.m. MST.
