MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat Police say they’re investigating reports of a “suspicious device” in the pedestrian tunnel in Kin Coulee Park.

The police service posted on social media shortly after 10:30 a.m., that the Explosive Disposal Unit has been called out to establish what the device is, and destroy it if it poses any danger.

The suspicious item was discovered shortly after 9 a.m., according to police.

The police service says the park on both sides of the pedestrian tunnel has been closed until the situation is resolved.

Access to the Kin Coulee dip is being prevented right now, and drivers will need to find an alternate route.

St. Mary’s School also announced they had implemented a shelter in place order at the school due to the ongoing investigation. Classes will run normally inside, however, students will not be allowed outside until the all clear is received. The school says updates will be posted to social media and sent out via School Messenger, text messaging and email.
