Hamilton’s Forge FC has signed Swedish midfielder Alexander Achinioti Jonsson.

The 22-year-old has played more than 100 matches in Sweden’s top two leagues. In 2018 he played for IFK Varnamo in the second tier, scoring six goals and adding one assist in 32 appearances.

The 5-11, 154-pounder also had stints at Hittarps IK (2011-12) and Helsingborgs IF (2012-17) and has represented Sweden at the under-19 youth level.

“Alexander comes to us not only at a very good football age, but coupled with considerable experience at the highest levels of Swedish football,” Bobby Smyrniotis, Forge FC coach and technical director, said in a statement. “He will bring very good ball-winning qualities and a relentless work ethic to our midfield.”

The Swede joins Cameroon international Bertrand Owundi and Canadians Kwame Awuah, Kyle Bekker, Chris Nanco, Tristan Borges and Marcel Zajac on the Forge FC roster. The Hamilton side also has U-Sports prospects Jace Kotsopoulos, Aboubacar Sissoko and Mark Mandekic.

Forge FC will host York 9 FC on April 27 in the Canadian Premier League’s inaugural match.
