Veteran safety Mike Edem signs extension with Saskatchewan Roughriders

REGINA — National safety Mike Edem has signed a two-year extension with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Brampton, Ont., Edem will enter his seventh year in the CFL. He was selected third overall by the Montreal Alouettes in the 2013 draft and also has played with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and B.C. Lions.

The Roughriders acquired Edem in a trade with the Lions prior to the 2017 season.

Last season, the six-foot-one, 210-pound Edem had a career-high 61 defensive tackles along with two interceptions while starting in all 18 regular-season games.

For his career, Edem has 172 defensive tackles, 50 special-teams tackles, eight interceptions and five sacks.

 

ESKIMOS SIGN TWO

The Edmonton Eskimos have signed international wide receivers Bryce Bobo and Anthony Mahoungou.

Bobo played college football at Colorado, while Mahoungou, a Paris native, suited up for Purdue.

 

LIONS INK LINEBACKER

Canadian linebacker Mitch Barnett has signed a two-yaer extension with the B.C. Lions.

The UBC product joined the Lions last year after two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Barnett played all 18 games on special teams in 2018.

“Mitch was a very solid addition to our special teams unit last season and we’re excited to have him back,” GM Ed Hervey said in a statement. “He is the type of player every team wants; smart, strong and coachable.”
