Strong winds expected for Medicine Hat and area

Medicine Hat, AB – Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Medicine Hat and the surrounding area.

A strong cold front is moving quickly southward this morning and will move through southern Alberta by the afternoon. Behind the front, Environment Canada is reporting strong northerly winds will gust 90 to 100 km/h.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.

As of 7:45 MST, the wind warning was issued for:

  • City of Medicine Hat
  • Co. of Forty Mile near Bow Island and Whitla
  • Co. of Newell near Patricia
  • Co. of Newell near Tilley and Rolling Hills
  • Cypress Co. near Bowell and Redcliff
  • Cypress Co. near Bowmanton Schuler and Hilda
  • Cypress Co. near CFB Suffield
  • Cypress Co. near Dunmore and Woolchester
  • Cypress Co. near Irvine and Walsh
  • Cypress Co. near McNeill and Sandy Point District Park
  • Cypress Co. near Seven Persons
  • Cypress Co. near Suffield and Hwy 879
  • Cypress Co. near Tide Lake
  • S.A. 2 near Bindloss Empress and Social Plains
  • S.A. 2 near Buffalo and Cavendish
  • S.A. 2 near Iddesleigh and Dinosaur Prov. Park
  • S.A. 2 near Jenner and Atlee

Additionally, rain showers are anticipated to quickly change to flurries, which will bring low visibility and blowing snow.

Temperatures are also expected to drop rapidly behind the front to below zero throughout the day.
