Third period push too little, too late for Tigers versus Moose Jaw

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A slow start cost the Medicine Hat Tigers dearly on Saturday night, falling to the Moose Jaw Warriors 3-1 and seeing their four-game win streak come to an end.

Medicine Hat was outshot 13-7 after the first period and 23-17 after two periods, with their only goal coming midway through the third frame in a comeback attempt courtesy of Baxter Anderson.

Working the cycle just under eight minutes into the game, Brayden Tracy was able to dish the puck to the left side of the net for an uncovered Justin Almeida, who slid the puck into the open cage to make it 1-0 for Moose Jaw.

Tigers goalie Jordan Hollett was able to keep it a 1-0 game with a number of big saves in the first and second periods, but he was only able to hold off the pressure for so long.

With Daniel Baker in the box on a hooking call, the Warriors doubled their lead to 2-0 with 3:15 left in the second period as Tracy kicked a pass to his stick and put his 19th of the year past Hollett.

Medicine Hat was able to cut the deficit in half with 12:25 left in regulation, with Anderson ripping a slap shot from the point for his third goal of the year and his second in two nights.

Pressuring with more shots in the third period, the Tigers pulled Hollett with less than two minutes remaining to try to find the equalizer.

However, Almeida was able to grab a pass from Tristin Langen on a two-on-none and put the game away for the Warriors with 54 seconds remaining.

Hollett made 25 saves in the loss for the Tigers, while Moose Jaw goaltender Brodan Salmond earned the two points with a 26 save showing.

Losing just their second game in regulation this month, the Tigers were unable to hold onto first place in the Central Division and have dropped to third with a 27-17-2-2 record.

Medicine Hat will have a chance to regroup this week with six days between games, as they return to action on Friday night in Moose Jaw for a rematch with the Warriors.
