Man faces impaired driving charge following severe crash

Medicine Hat, AB – A man is facing several charges following an impaired driving incident Friday night.

Police, fire officials and EMS were called to Hill Road SE around 6:40 p.m, after a collision was reported between a Dodge Ram truck and a Honda Mini Van.

The driver of the pickup truck had been travelling up Hill Road and veered into the oncoming lane, leading to the head on collision.

Upon the arrival of the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS), the male driver of the truck found himself under investigation for impaired driving, due to evidence located at the crash site.

Fire and EMS tended to the mother and her 2-year-old child in the van. They were both transported to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH). Police are reporting the mom suffered soft tissue injuries, while the child was determined to be unharmed.

Police are estimating the damage from this crash to be roughly $40,000.00.

The suspect was charged with:

  • Impaired Driving,
  • Refusal to provide a breath sample, and
  • Dangerous Driving.

At this time, the man cannot be named until charges are sworn before the courts.
