Dunmore, AB – Following the sudden passing of 10-year-old Dexter Druar, the Prairie Rose School Division (PRSD) has adjusted their hours of operations for some schools ahead of Druar’s funeral on Monday.

“The PRSD has made the decision to close Parkside School, Margaret Wooding School and I.F Cox School at noon on Monday, so that families, students and staff can all attend Dexter’s celebration of life,” said PRSD Communications Coordinator Angela Baron.

Eagle Butte will not be closed for the service as they are on diploma-exam week.

In order to make the early-dismissals happen, Prairie Rose also adjusted additional services within the system.

“We have busing arranged accordingly for all those students. If a parent does not want their child to go home on a bus, they need to let the school know so we are aware of other arrangements that are made for that child.”

“Any students that are registered at the I.F Cox or Margaret Wooding before and after school program are able to access that. The Margaret Wooding students will just be walked over to I.F Cox to join the other students at that time.”

Just like busing, Baron added it’s important that parents let their before and after school directors know if they’ll be attending the child-care program. This will ensure they have enough staffing in place to accommodate all of the students.

Earlier in the week, the PRSD also announced they will have counselling available for anyone who needs it within the system.

“We have a very strong family-school liaison team in the schools all the time. We always have them available and we will make sure those resources are pushed into the areas that need them. They will be in place for however long any parent or student needs to talk to somebody in regards to what has occurred.”

The celebration of life is scheduled for Monday, January 28th at 2 p.m and is open to the public. Those attending are encouraged to wear their favorite sports jersey.

The Canalta Centre is offering their facility at no cost to the family for the service.

The Redcliff Minor Hockey Association along with Canalta Centre representatives have denied interview requests and ask the public to respect their space and the families at this time.
