MEDICINE HAT, AB — HIV Community Link wants people to understand what the supervised consumption site will consist of once it’s open later this year.

Corey Ranger with the organization said there is a lot of misinformation swirling about the site and said they will not be providing any substances to individuals who use the facility.

Right now, the group is designing the space and are looking at what he called an ‘integrated care model’.

Ranger said it won’t just be a place to use substances.

“You walk into a drop in space,” he described. “There’s access to addictions counsellor, there’s access to a nurse, there’s access to existing programs that we have, harm reduction, supplies, the take home naloxone program.”

Ranger added that there will be a staff member from Medicine Hat Community Housing Society on hand, as well as an in-take worker to help anyone who’s ready to begin detox.

Ranger spoke about the services available below.
