Sogaard ready to tend twine at Top Prospects Game

RED DEER, AB — The hoard of professional hockey scouts have arrived in Red Deer ahead of the annual CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Wednesday, and much of the attention is falling on a member of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Rookie Mads Sogaard is one of two netminders in charge of Team Cherry’s twine, joining Taylor Gauthier of the Prince George Cougars.

This comes mere weeks after the 6’7″ first round import pick laced up with Team Denmark at the World Juniors in Vancouver and Victoria.

Sogaard missed last weekend’s action with the Tigers after tweaking his right hip flexor in last Wednesday’s game against Edmonton. After spending the last two games on the sidelines, the 18-year-old is good to go.

Earlier this week, Sogaard was ranked third among North American-based goaltenders eligible for this summer’s NHL draft. He’s right behind Spencer Knight of USA’s National Development Program (U18), and Hunter Jones of the OHL’s Peterborough Petes. Jones is lacing up with Team Orr.

He’s up against former Tigers forward Josh Williams and the rest of Team Orr. Williams was dealt to the Edmonton Oil Kings in a blockbuster deal on Jan. 10 which saw forward Brett Kemp head to Medicine Hat.
