Andreescu headlines good day for Canadians at Oracle Challenger tennis
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu is through to the third round of the Oracle Challenger tennis tournament.
The 18-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., downed American Katie Volynets 6-2, 7-6 (7) on Wednesday night.
Andreescu is seeded sixth at the tournament. She will face No. 9 seed Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic on Thursday.
Also Wednesday, Brayden Schnur of Pickering, Ont., advanced to the third round by defeating American Maxime Cressy 6-2, 7-5 and Toronto’s Katherine Sebov beat Sofya Zhuk of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-3.
